US estradiol patch supply tracker
In ASHP's pharmacist supply bulletin, last updated August 12, 2026 and unchanged when we read it on October 14, 2026, 17 of 41 product and strength listings are restricted: 4 on back order with no release date, 6 on intermittent back order and 7 on allocation. FDA's drug shortage database still lists no estradiol patch.
This page tracks what manufacturers report, not what a particular pharmacy has on the shelf. It carries no provider links or advertising.

Is the estradiol patch shortage on FDA's list?
No. On October 14, 2026 we searched FDA's drug shortage database through openFDA, which held 1,580 records and was last updated October 13, 2026. Searches by name, generic name and active substance returned no estradiol record. The same searches for progesterone and bupivacaine returned records, so the search itself works. We found the same result on August 2, 2026.
FDA acknowledged the shortage to Stateline in September 2026 and said it is working to increase supply. Its public database has not caught up, while ASHP first listed the shortage on January 30, 2026.

What has changed?
Every check we have recorded, newest first. We add a row each time we re-check, including when nothing changed.
| Date | Pharmacist bulletin | FDA shortage database | What changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 12 bulletin unchanged. | No estradiol record among 1,580 shortage records (database updated October 13). Progesterone and bupivacaine controls returned records; the estrogen-class search matched only fulvestrant, an estrogen blocker. | FDA still does not list estradiol patches, although it acknowledged the shortage to Stateline in September. | |
| August 12 bulletin unchanged. | Not rechecked. | No change. | |
| August 12 bulletin read: Dotti and Sandoz back orders at 0.0375 and 0.1 mg/day; Sandoz, Zydus allocation; Noven intermittent; one Viatris package intermittent. | Not rechecked. | First recorded read of the August 12 bulletin. | |
| Bulletin not readable on that date. | No estradiol record among 1,636 shortage records (database updated August 1). Progesterone and bupivacaine controls returned records. | First recorded FDA check. |
What if my patch strength is unavailable?
Ask your pharmacist which manufacturers they can order at your strength, and ask your prescriber before changing product, strength or wear schedule. A once-weekly patch cannot simply replace a twice-weekly one; your prescriber has to approve the change. ASHP's bulletin warns that cutting a patch can release an uneven dose and that reservoir-type patches should never be cut, so do not cut a patch unless your prescriber or pharmacist tells you to.
Our estrogen patch shortage guide explains the other estrogen forms a prescriber may consider, and the estradiol brand reference lists each patch's strengths and schedule.
If your prescriber is open to another estrogen form, our patch alternative tracker shows which telehealth services prescribe gels, sprays, creams, pills or vaginal estrogen, and marks the ones that pay us a commission.
How this tracker works
- Supply status comes from the ASHP drug shortage bulletin for estradiol transdermal systems. We restate each manufacturer's reported status by strength in our own words and link the bulletin; we do not copy its text.
- FDA status comes from our own openFDA queries, run with control searches so a no-result answer means something.
- We aim to re-check weekly and log every check above, with its date, even when nothing changed.
- Limits: manufacturer supply is not pharmacy stock, the bulletin can lag events, and a listed “available” product can still be hard to find locally.
- Corrections go into the log with a note. Compiled by Iacob Pastina for HRT Picks; this is supply information, not medical advice.
